SWAPPING - IS SIMPLY COMMONZENSE!

1.1

The concept of swapping is simple;
all cutlery collectors
have things we seek to add to our collections,
and things we do not want,
or value less.

1.2

In addition,
we all know where things are,
which may be of value to someone else,
but have no immediate market for it,
so do not buy.

2.1

We imagined a PERFECT world,
where the obvious PERFECT answer
is to greatly speed things up,
and greatly lower costs ( cash and time ).

2.2

The obvious PERFECT answer
is to give everyone's unwanted items
a defined SWAP-VALUE guide
against items listed on CUTLERYCOLLECTOR BLOG,
and create a sophisticated catalogue
that responds to input from collectors.

3.1

Currently most people are limited by

3.2

1. lack of cash

3.3

2. lack of space

3.4

3. lack of time

3.5

So creating in one simple concept
something that creates a useful currency,
and frees both space and time,
has to make COMMONZENSE!

4.1

One could say that CUTLERYCOLLECTOR BLOG
is setting out to do for cutlery
what Stanley Gibbons did for stamps.

4.2

Only we wish to use the result
to independently fund healing work with men
as the CommonZense4Men Project.

4.3

We wish to offer
large quantities of very high quality vintage cutlery,
plus vintage stainless steel tableware and cut-glass,
to hire to a discerning upmarket clientele,
who appreciate and take great care of our collections,
and value what it funds.

4.4

We have yet to work out how to access that market,
but know it must involve people with HEART,
not just cold 'professionalism'.

5.1

A SWAP-VALUE
can be adjusted under supply and demand,
so if we have a definite cash buyer,
we can increase our SWAP-VALUE
( as in the case for Ikea DATA forks, for example ),
knowing we have an immediate sale.

5.2

By putting a huge amount of effort
into creating and maintaining CUTLERYCOLLECTOR BLOG,
it can act as an evolving framework
to allow everyone to ( potentially ) instantly by-pass
the slow sales, time consumed, and expense of ( say ) eBay.

5.3

Items you already have,
plus items you may see cheap elsewhere,
become a powerful alternative currency.

6.1

That said, we do not live in a PERFECT world.

6.2

Somehow we must avoid rapidly losing all our best items
by swapping-in only lower quality stock,
as this would rapidly kill the goose that lays the golden egg -
for everyone.

6.3

This is a learning curve for us -
so we are flying by the seat of our pants -
but overall it benefits everyone
if we can steadily improve both quality and quantity
of what we offer other collectors,
plus the advantages of a speedy exchange.

6.4

Our aim
would be to put a guaranteed swap value on ALL items,
ONCE we have securely developed a multi-tier market.

6.5

Our further aim
would be to share information,
making everyone's life easier -
and that has value.

7.1

For example,
the very lowest quality cutlery,
we sell at only 15p per item as a clearance,
and it is very hard work.

7.2

Once we have a reasonable market for it,
or enough other good sales not to worry,
it would allow us to absorb all of it's input -
enough to take a long term view.

7.3

To do that,
requires enough space ( not yet available ),
and the confidence,
that it is not merely 'dead' money.

7.4

But if we CAN achieve a position,

where we can absorb EVERYTHING you can throw at us,

it would revolutionise the UK cutlery market.

8.1

Where we have another collector
telling us they will pay a good price for a specific item,
and take all we can get,
obviously it makes no sense to swap that item,
as having cash in hand is more flexible.

8.2

Where you offer us items
that another collector
will definitely buy from us at a known price,
we can then balance that positive input
against less beneficial items you offer us.

9.1

For this reason,
at least until this really gets off the ground,
and bulk swappers / buyers for lower quality items emerge,
each overall deal must be assessed on it's merits.

9.2

For this reason,
the SWAP-VALUE as an offer must be seen as rough guide only,

AND NOT A GUARANTEED EXCHANGE -

as much as we might wish we could.

9.3

The SWAP-VALUE works perfectly
where the cutlery offered on both sides
is of comparable quality,
so as long as this is kept in mind by both sides,
hopefully
everyone can be happy.

10.1

The Perfect Outcome
is a Win-Win Situation
that establishes Trust,
allowing a steady stream of swaps over time.

10.2

Feel free to make suggestions -
tell us what works for you!

10.3

Best wishes, Zen
